Love + Solidarity Collective

Scott Brown is part of the Love + Solidarity Collective, DC’s oldest artist/activist collective in Washington DC. Recently, LASDC has been hosting “Live in Da Garden” programs to share the work of, and financially support, local artists who have lost gigs due to Covid-19. See also Love + Solidarity on Facebook.

Shmutzik Shmattes

Shmutzik Shmattes is a Queer Yiddish Burlesque group. Performances, workshops, and actions include a Queer Yiddish Flashmob, a Shabbat program at Check-It Enterprises in Southeast DC, several workshops at New Synagogue Project in Northwest DC, and the virtual Up All Night program organized by a national coalition. John Brown and Whites Only

Kymone Freeman is co-owner of We Act Radio, which hosts and creates a variety of news and educational programming as well as cultural events. Other projects include a film, “Patriotic Treason: The Story of John Brown,” and the one-man show, “ABMIT [Angry Black Man in Therapy] Whites Only.” This photo is from a 2015 “ABMIT Whites Only” performance. The Night MJ Died

Kymone Freeman’s The Night Michael Jackson Died is the story of a chance encounter by complete strangers in a club in Little Havana, Miami on June 25, 2009. Staged readings have taken place at The Hamilton, The Eaton Hotel, and THEARC in DC as well as out of town locations. Washingtonian Story.

Black L.U.V. Festival

Black Luv Festival Black L.U.V. Festival is a cultural arts and community awareness festival in DC, founded 1997. In addition to annual events, Black LUV Festival mounted a 20-year retrospective art exhibit in 2018 and, in 2020, “The Choice Is Yours” with Mista Lawnge (Black Sheep) and Grammy- nominated Kokayi.
